Love and Gelato – The chill read that deserves to be on our shelves

The story had a great phasing that there wasn’t a dull moment. While the plot was not entirely new and even predictable at times, the execution totally made up for it as you fall in love with not just Italy but with some of the characters as well.

They relived the life of Lina’s mother, Addie, while she was in Italy. While Florence was beautifully portrayed during Lina and Ren’s escapades, eventually, I got more interested in Addie’s story and kept wanting Lina to return to the journal instead. It might have been the main reason to finish the book – the revelations of the mysterious Addie.

Even so, I had fun discovering Ponte Vecchio (Old Bridge), imagining the beauty of The Duomo, and even enjoyed the mini storytelling of Florence history.

“You know, people come to Italy for all sorts of reasons, but when they stay, it’s for the same two things.”

“What?”

“Love and gelato”

Lina & howard

Apart from the teenage romance and drama, it shows love in different forms and new beginnings. That life really comes with difficult decisions, risks and regrets, but either there is a way to make it right or it’ll work itself out eventually in the end.

It was a fun and chill read. Perfect for a corporate girl like me to escape to after a long day at work. Italy has always been in my bucket list of countries to visit, but even more so due to Love and Gelato.

Synopsis

Lina’s life turned upside down when (and without much context and explanation) she had to leave her whole life behind to move to Florence, Italy as a final wish from her mother. On top of that, Lina had to live with Howard, who was suddenly introduced as her father.

During her stay there, Lina received her mom’s journal filled with stories from her time at Florence. She relived the pages with the help of Ren, appreciating the beauty and rich history of her new home – and hopefully uncover the truth and understand the reason of her moving to Italy.
